Marion Bland Lecture: All that Remains: Lesser-Known Patriots of the American Revolution
Marion Bland will be lecturing on “The Martin Family” on October 29 at 11 am in the North Augusta City Council Chambers.
Dr. Marian Bland, known to her students as “Dr. B,” is a professor of English Literature at the University of South Carolina.
Marian first became interested in ancient cemeteries in 2009 after visiting Ireland to investigate the Celtic crosses that dot the countryside. She brought her sense of excitement and fascination with her when she moved to Lexington in 2016 to look after her aging parents. Her interest in the Old Edgefield District historic family cemeteries sparked after discovering her great-great grandfather’s graveyard in Johnston. An avid researcher, she published 15 articles for the Edgefield Advertiser detailing Revolutionary War family cemeteries and lineage. When she is not teaching, Marian volunteers as a docent at the South Carolina State Museum.
Dr. Bland’s upcoming presentation in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary is titled:
